EMERSON, Ga. – The offense has been the biggest calling card for the University of Northwestern Ohio baseball team early on in 2015, and on Saturday, that offense was on full display as the Racers swept away their opponents from Brescia University.

In their final tune-up before Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play begins on Wednesday afternoon, the UNOH Racers pounded out 13 hits and scored 10 runs for the seventh time in their first 14 games, defeating the Brescia Bearcats 10-2.

Jose Cruz opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, blasting his fourth 2-run homer run of the series, and an Alex Leach RBI-double in the second frame pushed the Racers' lead to 3-0.

Brescia scored on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and they picked up an unearned tally on an RBI single in the fifth, cutting the UNOH lead to 3-2, but from that point on, the Racers dominated. Brescia managed just two hits in the final four innings, and the Racers added four runs in the sixth inning, one in the seventh, and two in the eighth to wrap up the 10-2 win.

Reuben Medina (2-2) allowed two runs on four hits in six innings, walking one and striking out six to earn the win on the hill for UNOH. Riley Brown (0-1) took the tough luck loss for the Bearcats, allowing six runs – only three earned – on eight hits in five and one-third innings of work.

Brandon Collins was 3-for-3 in the game, picking up two RBIs to push his WHAC leading total to 21 in just 12 games played this season. Cruz, Leach, and Randal Muhlenkamp each also had two RBIs in the contest, Leach and Kyle Fisher each scored twice, and Brett Akins (3-for-4), Leach (2-for-4), and Rafael Lozada (2-for-4) each also had multi-hit games.

UNOH will open their 2015 home schedule, as well as their WHAC slate, on Wednesday afternoon, hosting the Indiana Tech Warriors (2-3) for a double-header at 2 p.m.
