LIMA, Ohio – Things have been going very well to the University of Northwestern Ohio baseball team of late this season. The Racers have won 11 of their 12 games at home this season, and 18 of their last 19 games overall, and on Saturday UNOH ran their shutout streak to 36 consecutive innings.

UNOH scored six runs in the fourth inning of game one of a double-header with Marygrove College, taking a 10-0 win. In the back half of the twin bill, the Racers offense stayed hot, pounding out 15 hits in a 14-0 win to complete the double-header sweep.

The Racers got on the board in the bottom of the second inning of game one when Jhonniel Alvarez doubled home Jose Cruz, and in the third, Brandon Collins ripped an RBI two bagger that scored Zyler Cosby to double the UNOH lead.

In the third inning, UNOH broke the game open, scoring six times. Ryan Lozada scored on a throwing error when Kyle Fisher chopped a grounder to third with nobody out. Two batters later, Zyler Cosby dropped down a sacrifice bunt, reaching on a fielder's choice as Fisher scored to put UNOH on top 4-0. Collins followed with a two-RBI double, and Jose Cruz singled him home to cap the six-run frame and stretch the Racers' lead to 8-0.

That was more than enough for senior left-hander Brodie Mitchell. Mitchell (4-0) ran his personal shutout streak to 17 innings, tossing a complete game shutout, scattering four hits and one walk, while fanning six Mustangs.

The Racers continued to hold the 8-0 lead as they entered the bottom of the eighth inning, and after Cosby flied out to start the frame, Collins and Carlos Baerga, Jr. both walked, bringing Austin Lenhardt to the plate. Lenhardt singled to center field, scoring Collins, and a throwing error from the Mustangs allowed Baerga to score as well, ending the game in a 10-0 Racer's victory.

Jacob Baker (0-5) took the loss in the game, as the Racers offense tagged him for eight runs on nine hits. Offensively for the Racers, Cosby, Collins, and Cruz each had two hits, Collins and Cosby each scored twice, and the Racers swiped nine bases in the game – four of those being stolen by Randal Muhlenkamp.

Cruz got UNOH on the board in the bottom of the first inning of game two with a sacrifice fly that scored Cosby, and in the second frame, UNOH plated an unearned run after Kyle Fisher reached on an error with two outs in the inning, allowing Justin Cummings to score and put UNOH ahead 2-0.

Baerga, Fisher, and Cory Cook each picked up RBIs with base hits in the bottom of the third as the Racers tallied five times to stretch their advantage to 7-0. Single runs in the fourth and fifth pushed the UNOH advantage to 9-0, and another five-run frame capped the scoring in the bottom of the sixth frame, as UNOH took the game two win 14-0, grabbing their fourth straight shutout in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.

On the hill, Ryan Petrangelo (5-0) threw the complete game shutout, allowing two hits and three walks with nine strikeouts in the game. Ryne Underwood (0-3) took the loss, giving up eight runs on eight hits in three and two-thirds innings.

Cosby posted a 4-for-4 effort at the plate in game two, scoring three times and driving in two; Collins was 3-for-5 with an RBI; and Cook was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Justin Cummings and Ryan Lozada were each 1-for-2 with two runs scored, while Cummings and Fisher each also had two RBIs.

The two ballclubs will meet again on Sunday in the final twin-bill of the series. The double-header will begin at 1 p.m.
