#25 Racers Run WHAC Winning Streak to 22

LIMA, Ohio – The University of Northwestern Ohio baseball team stayed on a roll on Sunday afternoon, running their regular season winning streak in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference to 22 games with a double-header sweep of Marygrove College.
The Racers plated seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of game one, punctuated by a walk-off grand slam from Kyle Fisher to take a 17-5 run-rule victory over the Mustangs. In game two, the Racers posted their third shutout of the weekend, finishing the sweep with a 6-0 win and pulling to within a half-game of the WHAC lead.
Marygrove scored twice in the top of the first inning of game one, but the Racers answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the 4-2 lead. Marygrove surged ahead in the top of the third frame, chasing UNOH starter Ruben Medina, but Ryan Carter came on to stop the rally, and the Racers took control of the game in the bottom of the fourth frame.
Zyler Cosby and Jose Cruz picked up RBI singles in the fourth to put the Racers back on top, and in the fifth inning, Fisher picked up his first RBI hit, a two run single up the middle that gave UNOH an 8-5 lead. Fisher and Cruz each added another RBI in the sixth, and in the seventh, UNOH sent eight men to the plate, with Fisher blasting a grand slam to end the game in a 17-5 UNOH win.
Carter picked up the win (2-0), tossing three and two-thirds hitless innings, walking one and striking out six. Daniel Bailey (0-5) allowed 10 runs on 12 hits in five innings.
Fisher and Cruz shouldered the load offensively for the Racers. Fisher was 3-for-4 with the Grand Slam and seven RBIs. Cruz posted a 4-for-5 game with a double, two stolen bases, three RBIs and three runs scored. Randal Muhlenkamp (3-for-4, RBI, R), Brett Akins (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBIs), and Brandon Collins (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI) also had multi-hit efforts in the game.
Cruz and James Cardona each picked up RBIs in the first inning of game two, and in the second inning Fisher notched his eighth RBI of the day, and Alex Leach notched a two-RBI single to push the UNOH lead to 5-0. Justin Cummings singled home Muhlenkamp in the sixth inning, and the Racers made it stand up, taking the win 6-0 to complete the series sweep.
Ryan Burns (3-1) earned the win as the Racers went with the staff approach on the mound in game two. Burns threw the first three innings, allowing two hits and striking out six. UNOH pitchers combined to strikeout 14 Mustang hitters in the game. Muhlenkamp scored twice in the game, Ryan Lozada walked and scored, and Leach had two RBIs.
UNOH will wrap up their 16-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon, hosting the Lourdes University Gray Wolves (5-16, 1-8 WHAC) for a double-header at 2 p.m.
