Indiana Tech Tops Racers in Fall Finale
FT. WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Northwestern Ohio baseball looked to wrap the fall baseball season with a perfect record as the Racers competed at Indiana Tech for the third match of the series which concluded the fall season.
The Racers (8-1, 8-1 WHAC) appeared primed for the feat as they held a 4-0 lead through 7.5 innings of play, but a late rally by the Warriors (6-3, 6-3 WHAC) snapped UNOH's win streak, ending the program's best start in the process.
Junior Gomez opened the scoring with a solo shot down the left field line in the fourth inning. In the next frame, UNOH used small ball tactics to get its second run across off a Jeff Cardenas RBI. Rafael Lozada and Jonathan Rodriguez added the final two runs in the seventh inning.
However, a three-run home run by Tighe Koehring in the bottom of the eighth inning put Indiana Tech back into contention while the Warriors used a pinch hit appearance by Matt Bandor to capitalize with a two-run shot over the left field wall to take the walk-off victory.
Abrahan Flete threw 4.1 shutout innings in the start, taking a no-decision. Taking the loss was Jacob Hulcher (0-1) while Jacob Koehring was credited with the win for IT.
The Racers will resume play during the traditional spring season.
