Sweep Completed at Aquinas
WYOMING, Mich. – The University of Northwestern Ohio baseball team wrapped up its season-opening road series at Aquinas College on Sunday after taking both games of Saturday's doubleheader as the Racers looked to complete the sweep.
After seven innings, the Racers (3-0, 3-0 WHAC) led the Saints (0-3, 0-3 WHAC) 7-5, but a massive eighth frame put eight more runs on the scoreboard as UNOH to took a commanding 15-5 victory through eight innings played.
Jonathan Rodriguez led the Racers' offense with three hits, three RBIs, and a run scored. A three-hit, three-run performance by Junior Gomez was capped by a pair of doubles and a stolen base. The offensive attack was led by a balanced day at the plate as 10 UNOH players got a hit while 11 put a run on the board.
Austin Bueter (1-0) recorded the victory on the mound through 5.1 innings pitched, allowing just two runs and striking out seven batters.
UNOH's next contest is its home-opening series against Davenport University. A doubleheader on Saturday, Oct. 1 is set for first pitch at 1 pm on the campus of UNOH.
