UNOH Drops Finale at Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – After playing a split doubleheader on Saturday, the No. 19 University of Northwestern Ohio Baseball Team took on the Georgetown (Ky.) College Tigers in a nine-inning contest to conclude the weekend.
The Racers (17-7) were unable to maintain their presence at the plate from Saturday's slugfests as Georgetown (9-6) took the contest, 6-3.
The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Racers took their only lead in the top of the third off of back-to-back RBI singles by Jeff Cardenas and James Cardona. GC followed that up with a two-run fourth and three-run fifth to reclaim the lead for good as UNOH managed only one run the rest of the way in the eighth.
Cardenas led the offense with a pair of hits, an RBI, and a run scored while also showcasing his speed with the lone stolen base for the Racers.
The pitcher of decision was Mike Alexander (2-2) as he threw 4.2 innings and surrendered six runs off of six hits in the start. Jacob Hulcher and Abrahan Flete combined for 3.1 innings of one-hit, one-walk relief.
UNOH's next outing will be a pivotal non-conference challenge as the Racers are set to visit the fifth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies. The series beings on Saturday, March 4 and concludes on the following day.
