Racers Rebound with Two Wins on Day Two

DAYTON, TN - A six-run fourth pushed UNOH past IU-Southeast in game one of the day for the Racers first win of the campaign. Game two saw an eight-run sixth put UNOH in control of a 12-7 win over (RV) Bryan.

An Eliomar Otero sac fly and a Darius Freeman double open the scoring in the bottom of the second but the lead was short-lived with the Grenadiers matching in the bottom. After a scoreless third, UNOH began rolling with two outs in the fourth. Otero and Freeman cracked back-to-back homers and Drake Miller doubled to score two more. Noah Matheson capped the inning with a two-run shot of his own to give the Racers six in the inning and an 8-2 lead in the game. The pitching settled in and kept the offenses scoreless through seven to give UNOH their first win of the season.

Darius Freeman went 2-4 in the game with two RBI and Tyler Grigalis finished 2-3. Miller, Matheson and Otero each had two RBI.

Zach Cabell (1-0) got his debut start with the Racers picking up the win after three and a third innings. Cabell gave up two runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Michael Joyce tossed the final three and two-thirds giving up just one hit and one walk with six strikeouts.

 

UNOH 12 Bryan 7

The Lions used a three-run shot in their first at-bat of the game to take an early lead. Eliomar Otero got one back for the Racers with a solo home run in the second, but Bryan continued to hold the lead 3-1 through four innings. A Tim Hanible double and a Nolan Hull single scored one before Tyler Grigalis put UNOH up 4-3 with a two-run homer. The Lions answered with three of their own in the bottom to go back up 6-4 after five. The Racers took control in the top of the sixth as the offense exploded. Eliomar Otero started things off with a three run homerun before an error brought in one more. Tyler Grigalis scored the fifth on a sac fly and Noah Matheson finished off an eight-run inning with a two-run double. The Lions managed to get one back in the seventh but that was all as UNOH ended their opening weekend 2-2.

Darius Freeman, Drake Miller, Eliomar Otero and Tim Hanible all went 2-4 in the game. Otero led the team with four RBI, Tyler Grigalis added three and Noah Matheson had two.

AJ Buchman got the start and went four and a third innings with four runs off three hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Nick Soller and Jeremy Yurcak combined to finished two-thirds of the fifth with two runs off two hits with two walks and a strikeout. Wyatt Johnson (1-0) pitched the sixth inning and earned the win with one run off one hit and one walk. Eliott Traver tossed a clean seventh with no hits, no runs and no walks.

 

UNOH will have two weeks off before they head to the Midwest Clash at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. The Racers will four games February 17-18 against Saint Xavier, No. 25 Freed-Hardeman, IU-South Bend and IU-Kokomo.
