LIMA, OH - UNOH and IU-Southeast traded games at Racer Field Saturday afternoon with the Racers winning game one, 6-3 and the Grenadiers taking game two, 9-5.
Game 1: UNOH 6 IUS 3
UNOH fell behind 2-0 out of the gate but kept IUS at bay through four. After a lead off walk in the bottom of the fifth, the Racers linked three straight singles to tie the game. An error and a sac fly scored two more and UNOH went up 4-2 after five. Tyler Grigalis singled with two outs in the sixth to bring in one run and Noah Matheson added another to put the Racers up 6-2. The Grenadiers managed to score one in the ninth but UNOH handled the pressure to finish off the game 6-3.
Grigalis had an impressive outing going 4-5 at the plate with two RBI. Lincoln Hackim finished 2-4 in the game with Tim Hanible, Eliomar Otero, Noah Matheson and Drake Miller all bringing in one RBI.
Zach Cabell went three and a third innings off the start giving up two runs on two hits with three strikeouts. Michael Joyce (1-0) entered in relief pitching four and a third with just two hits and five strikeouts to earn the win. Nick Soller finished the final one and a third giving up one run on two hits.
Game 2: IUS 9 UNOH 5
IU-Southeast struck first again, this time putting up four in their first at-bat. An error helped the Racers get two back in the second before Josh Ledgard brought in one more in the fourth to make it a 4-3 game. The Grenadiers put up another four-run inning in the sixth to take controll 8-3. Nolan Hull doubled to score one in the bottom of the frame and Tyler Grigalis added another in the seventh but it was as close as UNOH could get. IUS added an insurance run in the eighth but didn't need it as the Racers came up short 9-5.
Drake Miller and Joskar Feliciano both went 2-4 at the plate as the only Racers with multiple hits. Tyler Grigalis, Nolan Hull, and Josh Ledgard each finished with one RBI.
AJ Buchman got the start and took the loss after just two innings of work. Buchman gave up four runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout. Nick Johnson pitched three and two-thirds in relief with one run on two hits and two walks. Will Myklebust, Jack Olberding, and Jeremy Yurcak combined for two and a third innings and Eliott Traver tossed a clean ninth to finish the game.
UNOH will head to the Midwest Clash in Millington, Tenn. next weekend to play four games. The Racers will face Saint Xavier and No. 25 Freed-Hardeman on Saturday, February 17 before finishing with IU-South Bend and IU-Kokomo on Sunday.
