Baseball Winning Streak Snapped with Two Losses at Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, IN - After winning 21 straight games, UNOH baseball took their first two conference losses of the season on the road at Indiana Tech. A five-run inning buried the Racers in game one as they fell for the first time since February, 11-4. After falling behind 11-5 in game two, UNOH fell one run short of the comeback in an 11-10 setback.

 

Game one started scoreless through two innings but the Warriors quickly changed that plating five runs in the home third. Tyler Grigalis and Joskar Feliciano led off the fourth with back-to-back home runs but Indiana Tech got one back in the bottom. Alphonso Franks ripped the team's third homer of the game in the fifth and Tyler Grigalis drove in another with a sac fly, but it would be the final run of a 6-4 game for UNOH. The Warriors continued to pour on the runs adding three in the fifth and two in the sixth to snap the Racers' 21 game winning streak.

Tyler Grigalis was the only UNOH player with multiple hits going 2-2 with two RBI. Nick Soller (1-1) took the the loss allowing five runs, three earned, off three hits. Soller struck out two and walked three over two and one third innings of work. Jeremy Yurcak tossed an inning and two-thirds with one run off three hits and one strikeout. Blake O'Bryan, Jack Olberding, and Eliott Traver combined for an inning in middle relief giving up three runs and three hits between them. Tony Manzano finished the final frame for the Racers allowing two runs off two hits with two strikeouts.

UNOH controlled the nightcap early on jumping up 5-0 after four. Tim Hanible got the scoring started with an RBI double followed by a two-RBI single by Darius Freeman in the second. Eliomar Otero led off the fourth with home run before Tyler Grigalis drove in another for a 5-1 lead through four. Indiana Tech cut the lead to two in the fifth but most of the damage came in the home eighth. The Racers couldn't stop the bleeding as the Warriors plated eight to go up 11-5. Titus Groeneweg got his team back in the fight with a three-run shot in the seventh and they added two more in the eighth to make it a one-run game. Down to three outs, UNOH couldn't get the tying run aboard as Indiana Tech held on for the 11-10 win.

Titus Groeneweg finished perfect at the dish going 3-3 with three RBI to lead the team. Tim Hanible went 3-5 matching the program record with three doubles in the game with Tyler Grigalis, Nolan Hull, Eliomar Otero and Cy Kerber all logging a multi-hit game.

Michael Joyce got the start and went four innings giving up three runs off three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Nick Soller and Jeremy Yurcak combined for one inning of work allowing one run and one hit between them. Jacob Lucas (0-1) took the loss in his first career decision getting through just one third of an inning. Lucas gave up five runs on three hits with no walks or strikeouts. Jacob Landers capped the sixth inning allowing two runs off three hits with one walk and one strikeout. Wyatt Johnson finished the final two frames with just one hit while striking out two.

 

UNOH returns home Sunday to face last-place UM-Dearborn (3-29, 1-19) in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
