UNOH Takes First Two Games at Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, KY - UNOH baseball won the first two games of a four-game series against Georgetown on Saturday. Game one was a tight pitcher's duel ending 2-0 for the Racers but a nine-run seventh blew game two open with UNOH running away 11-3.
The first game of the series started as a pitching showdown with two teams producing just three total hits over the first three innings of play. Finally UNOH broke through stringing together three singles and plating the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. The Racers threatened again in the fifth but couldn't produce a run as Georgetown continued to come up empty both innings. The game entered the final frame still 1-0 but a two-out homer from Eliomar Otero doubled the lead before the final Tiger at bat. A lead off double and a wild pitch gave Georgetown some hope with a runner on third and no outs, but that runner was summarily picked off by closer Eliott Traver who then forced a foul out and a ground out to retire the side on just ten pitches.
Fabian Romero, Noah Matheson and Eliomar Otero all finished 2-4 in the game with Otero and Nolan Hull credited with bring in the team's two runs.
Daniel Healy (3-1) picked up his third straight win tossing five and two-thirds innings scattering three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Eliott Traver bagged his four save of the season finished the final inning and a third with one hit given up.
The second contest started similar to the first with a tight pitchers duel deep into the game. The first run came off a hit batter and a error in the first that gave UNOH a 1-0 lead. Despite the early run, the game produced just one hit over the first three and a half innings before a wild pitch allowed a reach on a strike out followed by a Georgetown home run that put them on top 2-1 after four. The Racers tied the game with a sac fly in the top of the fifth and then both teams went hitless over the next inning and a half sending it into the seventh still tied 2-2.
Things started to fall apart for the Tigers with four consecutive hit batters giving UNOH the lead and beginning a cascade. After a pitching change, the Racers singled, walked and were hit by a pitch again to add three more runs. A strike out gave Georgetown a second out, but didn't solve the problem. The next four batters went walk, single, walk, single to score four more runs and making it an 11-2 ball game. A two out RBI single helped get one of the runs back for the Tigers, but both offenses went quiet in the final two frames giving UNOH a day-one sweep.
Eliomar Otero and Noah Matheson both had multiple hits for a second time in the day. Otero went 2-4 and Matheson finished 2-5 with both bring home two RBI.
Brayden Lybarger (2-1) went six innings off the start giving up three runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. Jeremy Yurcak tossed one inning of middle relief striking out two and giving up one hit. Jordan Davis finished off the final two frames also with two strike outs and one hit allowed.
UNOH will finish off the four-game series with Georgetown on Sunday with first pitch of game one scheduled for 12:00 PM.
