First Place Racers Stay on Track with Two More Wins
LIMA, OH - UNOH maintained their control over the conference Wednesday afternoon picking up a pair of victories over Siena Heights 11-6 and 19-5 giving them 27 wins in their last 28 games.
UNOH had to battle from behind in the first game of the day after falling behind 6-1 through three and a half innings. The Racers brought in one on a wild pitch in the home fourth followed by a two-run shot in the fifth that made a 6-4 game. The offense finally came alive in the sixth as UNOH pieced together eight of their 15 hits and scored seven runs to complete the comeback and take the win comfortably, 11-6.
Dean Sommer took the start and went two and two-thirds innings with one run on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Jeremy Yurcak threw one complete inning in relief allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out two. Josh Mauney (4-1) earned the decision with three and a third innings of work giving up two unearned runs o ntwo hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
The Racers struck first in the nightcap scoring three runs on four hits in their first at bat but gave up all five Saints' runs in the top of the second to fall behind. The lead didn't last long for Siena Heights as UNOH again plated three in the bottom of the frame to get back in front for the final time. They added one in the third and three more in the fifth to take a commanding lead, 10-5. The sixth inning was the Racer showcase again as they strung together five hits capped by a three-run homer that culminated in a nine-run inning and a 19-5 run-rule victory.
Zach Cabell went one inning off the start but was forced out in the second after three runs on two hits with two walks and a strikeout. Jeremy Yurcak threw two-thirds of an inning but also couldn't get out of the second giving up two runs on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Nick Soller (1-0) earned his first decision of the season working two and a third innings in relief where he allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out one. Nate Tappenden, Aidan Nugent and Noah Curi combined for the final three innings giving up two combined hits.
Eliomar Otero led the team offensively over the two games finishing 7-8 at the dish with seven RBI including an incredible 5-5 in game two. Noah Matheson and Fabian Romero each logged two multi-hit games ending the day 4-8 and 4-9, respectively. Devon Tukes ended 3-7 overall but drove in five RBI while Joskar Feliciano brought in four on a 3-6 performance.
UNOH was originally scheduled to go on the road Friday for a doubleheader at Cornerstone, but those games have now been moved to Lima and the Racers will square off against the Golden Eagles at 12:00 PM back at Racer Field.
