Two Complete Games Power Racers to Season Sweep of LTU

UTICA, MI - UNOH baseball battled through a tough pitcher's duel in their first game at Lawrence Tech Saturday afternoon but managed to fend off the Blue Devils for a 2-1 win. The nightcap told a vastly different story as the Racers ran away for an 11-0 run-rule victory behind another outstanding performance on the mound.

Despite being out hit 6-3 in the opener, UNOH managed to keep their noses in front thanks to two doubles in the first and a solo Devon Tukes homer in the fourth. Lawrence Tech hit their only extra base knock in the home fifth to make it a 2-1 game after five, but the next six Blue Devils were retired in order to finish off the win.

Daniel Healy (7-1) put together the team's first complete game of the season scattering six hits without a walk and striking out six.

Brayden Lybarger (7-1) followed with his own complete game in the nightcap. The Elida product gave up just two hits over his seven innings with five strikeouts and four walks.

The two stellar mound performances helped drop the Racer team ERA to 3.96 this season which is tenth best in the nation.

In contrast to game one, the UNOH offense had no trouble opening up in game two stringing together six hits that included two doubles in the top of the second to bring in five runs. They used a couple singles and a couple walks in the third to add two more and take a commanding 7-0 lead. Two doubles, two walks and a single produced the third crooked number of the game in the fifth with Eliomar Otero capping the road trip with a solo shot in the seventh.

Otero ended game two 3-5 to lead at the dish while Noah Matheson brought in a team high four RBI on 2-5 hitting. Fabian Romero ripped two doubles to extend his team best hitting streak to nine games matched by Devon Tukes who did the same with a single in the third.

Holding a four-game lead with four to play, UNOH could clinch the regular season WHAC title Wednesday, April 23 when Concordia and Indiana Tech, both tied for second place, square off in Ann Arbor. If the two teams split their doubleheader, the Racers would claim the title. If either team wins both, UNOH would need to win just one of their final four games to earn the championship outright. Their next outing will be at Cleary on Saturday, April 26 followed by the final two regular season games at Siena Heights on Sunday.
