Baseball Clinches Spot in WHAC Finals with Win Over Concordia
ROCKFORD, MI - UNOH baseball earned a 3-1 win over the two-seed Concordia Cardinals on Friday to secure a spot in the WHAC Finals on Saturday. The victory also marks the program's first 40-win season since 2018 with a record of 40-11-1.
Offense was hard to come by but the Racers were the first on the board after three straight singles put them up 1-0 in the second. A wild pitch on a strikeout aided the Cardinals to a run in the home third but it was their only one of the game. UNOH singled four times in the top of the fifth scoring a pair of runs and taking a 3-1 advantage into the sixth. The two teams combined for just four hits over the final four innings as the Racers held their lead through the end.
Eric Brown and Eric Impson were the only UNOH players to record multiple hits with each going 2-4 at the dish.
Will Myklebust (4-1) was in control on the bump through seven and two-thirds innings allowing just one run on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Jeremy Yurcak finished the third out of the eighth before Eliott Traver entered to close out the ninth for his eighth save of the season.
UNOH will play for the tournament championship on Saturday, May 3 facing the winner of Concordia and Indiana Tech at 4:00 PM. As the only remaining undefeated team in the double-elimination tournament, either the Cardinals or the Warriors would have to beat the Racers twice to steal the title.
