Racers Fall 9-5 in First Game of WHAC Finals

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - With a chance to win the tournament Saturday, UNOH baseball fell short in a 9-5 contest to Indiana Tech. The loss sets up a winner-take-all showdown Monday, May 5 that will be played at Racer Field in Lima.

At least one of the two teams scored in six of the nine frames but it was three crooked numbers put up by the Warriors that made the difference. They scored four in the second, two in the fifth and three more in the ninth while the Racer offense struggled to get in rhythm. A solo home run in the third scored the first for UNOH adding one in the fourth and one in the eighth. Entering their last at bat, the Racers trailed 9-3 and managed to work a pair of runs across the plate but their efforts came up short forcing an extra game to decide a champion.

The Eliomar Otero homer was the team's only extra base hit of the game with Otero finishing 2-3 with one RBI. Seth Freeman went 3-4 also with one RBI and Eric Impson drove in two on 2-4 hitting.

Sinjon Bobolia (6-1) took his first loss of the season after going just two and a third innings off the start. Bobolia allowed four runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Five other Racers combined in relief efforts that saw five runs score on a combined ten hits.

UNOH will now host Indiana Tech in a single game on Monday at 1:00 PM that will decide the WHAC Tournament Championship. Both team's have already punched their ticket to the national tournament with the Racers playing for the title after being crowned regular season champions this year.
