Racers Light up No. 5 Tenn. Wesleyan, Fall to Freed-Hardeman

MILLINGTON, TN - UNOH baseball wrapped up their trip to Tennessee with two more games at the MidSouth Clash Sunday afternoon. The Racers began the day by lighting up No. 5 Tennesee Wesleyan, 12-4, to pick up the program's first top five victory since 2022 and first over the Bulldogs since 2014. The weekend ended with a tough 11-2 loss to Freed-Hardeman to send UNOH back home with a 3-1 record over their four games.

Tennessee Wesleyan scored first with one run in their first at bat, but UNOH answered with three of their own in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. A lead off single followed by another single put the first run on the board before an error aided the second of the day. A third single scored the third run and put the Racers up 3-1 after one.

The next six Bulldogs went down in order before UNOH blew the game open in the third with six more runners crossing the plate. A hit batter, a single, and an error opened the frame followed by another single, an RBI ground out and a sacrifice fly driving in three more. After a walk and consecutive singles loaded the bases again, Fabian Romero sent a shot to center field that brought in another two runs and gave the Racers a commanding 9-1 lead after three.

A sac fly made it 10-1 in the fourth before Tennessee Wesleyan finally got their offense going in the fifth cutting into the lead with three runs. Cesar Grau ended any hope of a comeback blasting a two-run homer in the home sixth, his first of the season, to finish off the 12-4 victory.

Jake Watson, Fabian Romero, Cesar Grau and Tyler Huff all logged a mutli-hit game with Romero, Grau and Huff each bringing home three RBI.

Sinjon Bobolia (1-1) picked up the win after allowing one run and one walk with just two hits over four innings of work. Carter Hicks took over in the fifth and finished the final two and two-thirds giving up one hit and striking out two without a walk.

The final game of the MidSouth Clash was difficult on both sides for UNOH allowing two in the third, four in the fourth and five in the fifth while only scoring two on just five total hits. Both runs came with two outs in the fifth off a Jake Watson single.

Zach Grigalis recorded his first multi-hit game of his career finishing 2-3 with a single and a double.

Brayden Lybarger (0-3) gave up two runs on three hits over three innings striking out four and walking two. Aidan Nugent, Blake O'Bryan, Noah Curi and Jordan Davis combined for just an inning and two thirds that saw nine runs score on five hits and six walks. Parker Kerr tossed the final inning and a third keeping his line clean and striking out one.

UNOH will head to Kentucky next weekend for a four game series at Georgetown College. The Racers and Tigers will play two games on Saturday and two on Sunday with game one first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM both days.
