Cabell Deals, Racers Survive and Advance in Opening Round

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - After falling to Talladega in their first game Monday, UNOH managed to keep their tournament hopes alive Tuesday surviving a 1-0 pitcher's duel over No. 23 Marian.

Senior slinger Zach Cabell was dominant through five and two-thirds innings retiring eleven of the first twelve batters he faced with the only reach coming off an error. Cabell allowed just two hits while fanning nine keeping the game scoreless deep into the sixth. The Racer bullpen was also sharp led by junior Ryan Yingst (3-0) in middle relief. Yingst entered with runners on second and third in the sixth retiring the only batter he faced and eventually becoming the pitcher of record.

In their next trip to the plate, UNOH finally broke the deadlock thanks to back-to-back singles and a perfectly executed sac bunt that put two in scoring position. With just one out on the board, Tyler Huff finished off the flawless small-ball inning bringing in the only run of the game with a ground out to second base.

Noah Curi took over the mound in the bottom of the inning and picked up where his two predecessors left off. The senior was always in control over the final three innings striking out four and facing just two over the minimum for his first career save. The three Racer pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and just three total hits in the win holding the Knights scoreless for just the second time all season.

The win advances UNOH into a second elimination game tonight where they will see Talladega for the second time. The Tornadoes handed the Racers a 12-2 loss in their first meeting and the second time around will see one team's season come to an end. The two square off at 7:00 PM EST and can be watched on the GGC Athletics YouTube page here: Tournament Stream
