Men's Basketball: Racers Hold off Saints Comeback

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - UNOH (3-6, 2-4) picked up back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a 71-65 win over Aquinas (4-6, 2-4).

The teams traded leads early and the game sat level at 16-16 halfway through the first half. UNOH started to pull away from there outscoring the Saints 19-8 while finishing the final six points of the half for a 35-24 lead at the break. Again the teams started even before the Racers busted out a 17-7 run to take their largest lead of the game at 58-38 with just over ten minutes to play. Aquinas wouldn't go away and responded with their own 15-0 run to cut the lead to just five. The second half runs continued with UNOH going 6-0 and the Saints going 9-2 before UNOH hit 7 of 8 free throws to in the final minute to ice the game and take the win.

Biggz Johnson (SO/Lima, Ohio) led the team with 18 points while shooting 5-10 from the field and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Hunter Bode (SR/Cincinnati, Ohio) and Trevon Wells (JR/Cleveland, Ohio) each finished with 14 points in the game. Bode shot 6-13 from the field with five rebounds. Wells was 6-8 from the field and 2-2 from outside with four boards. John Barker (SO/Lima, Ohio) finished with a team high six rebounds in the game.

UNOH will host a non-conference game against (RV) Huntington on Wednesday, December 7, before heading to Lawrence Tech for their final conference game of 2022 on Saturday, December 10.
