UNOH Hires Brian Van Meter as Director of Bowling
The University of Northwestern Ohio is excited to announce the hiring of Brian Van Meter as the new Director of Bowling and Head Men's Bowling coach effective immediately. Van Meter will be returning to UNOH after previously leading the Racer women from 2013-2014 and they entire program from 2014-2016. He takes over the programs from previous head coach Tyler Sosby who resigned earlier this year.
During his previous stint, Van Meter boasted an overall record of 267-57 and was named WHAC Coach of the Year following the 2013-14 season. In the six years leading up to his time at UNOH, he led the boys bowling team at Wapakoneta High School placing second, third and seventh in the state on Ohio.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Van Meter back to UNOH," stated Director of Athletics Jen Dervarics. "His coaching history with our program combined with the strong relationships he has built through the local bowling community makes him an ideal candidate for the position. He understands what our university stands for, knows how to connect with student-athletes, and brings a level of trust and respect that's already deeply rooted here. We're confident he will elevate our program while continuing to strengthen the bond between our team and the community."
Van Meter comes back to UNOH after six years as the assistant boys and girls coach at Wapakoneta. Prior to that, he worked as the Head Astro Lanes Bowling Coach from 2003-06 winning a State Championship in the 2004-05 season and finishing runners up in 2005-06.
Along with the hiring of Van Meter, Northwestern Ohio also announced the promotion of Anthony Kennard from assistant coach to Head Coach of Women's Bowling. The two were introduced in their new roles last week and have already begun their work with the UNOH bowling programs.
