Racers Take Top Spot in First Fall Tournament

PRESTONBURG, KY - UNOH men's golf opened the fall portion of their season with a team championship at the UPIKE Fall Invitational at StoneCrest Golf Course. The Racers shot a 282 in both rounds for a 564, matching the program's third lowest total, to take the top spot by two strokes over host Pikeville.

Noah Honinger led the team with rounds of 65 and 72 for a tournament total of 137 (-7). Honinger finished in a tie for first but fell short of the individual medal in the second playoff hole. Hayden Hah placed third with a round one 68 and round two 70 to finish with a 6-under 138. Luke Turner fell in right behind in fourth place after shooting 72 and 67 for a 139 (-5). Frederik Voss shot 77-73=150 and Bruno Boado scored 83-76 in his first collegiate tournament to round out the Racer team scoring. Carter Schimmoeller and Bernardo Umana each participated as individuals in the tournament. Schimmoeller shot 83-73=159 and Umana went 86-81=167.

The Racers' 564 team total put them 12-under par for the tournament, beating the program's previous record by two strokes (-10, two occasions).

"I am extremely proud of all the guys," said head coach Eric West following the tournament. "They battled terrible weather with heavy rain and severely wet conditions. They just worked hard and did their jobs. These are great scores on a tough golf course and the internal competition to earn a spot on our roster will make for a fun year."

UNOH will hit the links next at The Players Club Invitational September 11-12, played at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Indiana.
