Men's Golf Begins Season with Team Title at UNOH Fall Invite
BLUFFTON, OH - UNOH men's golf played host to the first tournament of the fall season at Bluffton Golf Club Monday and Tuesday. The Racers ran away easy winners with their A-Team taking the top spot and their B-Team finishing second.
The UNOH A-Team shot rounds of 277, 281 and 289 to finish 17-under par with an 847 tournament total. They were led by Jose Vargas who earned his first career individual medal after carding under par all three rounds. Vargas fired off a 69 and 68 on day one finishing with a 71 on day to for a 208 total and 8-under par, tied for the second lowest 54-hole score in program history.
Oliver Rogers finished one stroke back after three under-par rounds of his own shooting 68, 70 and 71. Guillermo Garron placed third with a 4-under 212 matching his career best with a 3-under 68 in round one followed by even-par 72's in rounds two and three. Oscar Lind and Alfie Baldwin rounded out the A-Team scoring in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Lind shot 72, 71 and 76 with Baldwin going 74, 73 and 75.
The Racers' B-Team was led by Jaiden Pass who shot 2-under 70 in the first round followed by a 72 and 76 for a tournament score of 218 and a fifth place finish, the first of his career. Luke S. Turner landed in a tie for seventh shooting 76 and 77 in the first two rounds but finishing strong with a 3-under 69 for a 222 total. Ben Giere finished tenth carding an even-par 72 followed by back-to-back rounds of 76 to shoot 224 for the tournament. The B-Team scoring was rounded out by Jonathan Schlenker and Kyle Sutton who finished with a 225 and 228, respectively.
Roman Leszinske, Jordan Johnstone and Bernardo Umana each played as individuals in the tournament for UNOH. Leszinske shot 231, Johnstone finished with a 239 and Umana went 250.
UNOH will be back on the links next Tuesday and Wednesday, September 2-3, when they take on The Alpine course at the Boyne Mountain Resort in Michigan with the LTU Collegiate Kickoff.
