Motorsports Team Scores Emotional Modified Victory

The UNOH Motorsports Team found victory lane again last Friday night, providing an emotional send off to graduating crew chief Wilson Owens. Driver Eric Kinney II and the #1 Modified crew found their way to the front stretch after a torrid side by side battle with the #4 of Jason Kinney (no relation) from the drop of the green flag. Jason Kinney attempted to grab the lead via the top of the racetrack for multiple laps, but it was Eric Kinney's command of the bottom that would ultimately prove victorious.

The victory was especially emotional for Crew Chief Wilson Owens, who graduated last week with associate degrees in Automotive and High-Performance Motorsports Technology and a bachelor's degree in Specialized studies. Owens departed the University and the team the next morning to join the Trackhouse Racing as a traveling mechanic for the #88 NASCAR Cup Series team of Connor Zilisch. When asked about his time on the Motorsports Team Owens said "If you had told me 4 years ago that I'd be able to have these experiences and make these connections I wouldn't have believed you. It's incredible that, thanks to UNOH, I am able to return to my hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina and build a career in the sport I'm passionate about."

The #11 UMP Modified crew led by driver Dylan Drake and crew chief Cale Turbeville saw good speed as well. A 5th place finish in a stacked heat race would mean Drake would start the A Main from the 15th slot on the grid. The #11 was able to better their finishing position by two spots in the feature, recording a 13th place finish.

The Lock 16 Thunderstock crews had an up and down night during the 91st Anniversary race. A midseason driver swap saw different pilots in all 3 of the UNOH machines, with Aiden Hervey moving to the #00, CJ Permann moving to the #1, and Blake Steele making his Limaland debut in the #01. The A Main would see disaster strike, as the 3rd running #1 car would have an engine expire, causing an unavoidable stack up that would take out the #60 of Todd Sherman and the #01 of Steele. Aiden Hervey would bring the #00 home in the 8th position.

The Team will return to action this Friday, June 26th for Late Model Mania, featuring the American Late Model Iron-Man Series, the Otterly Baths UMP Modifieds and the Lock 16 Thunderstocks.
