MARION, IN - UNOH (4-0-1) stayed undefeated Wednesday, September 7, with a 2-1 win over previously undefeated (RV) Indiana Wesleyan (2-1-2).
Tomas Echevarria (JR/Montevideo, Uruguay) broke the deadlock in the 31st first minute. He took the ball from a defender and went off the crossbar into the left side of the net to put the Racers up 1-0. That score held into the break and almost 20 minutes into the second half. The Wildcats put a liner past Danilo Abayo (SO/Germany) in the 65th minute to level the match. Less than a minute later, UNOH Jovaunn Ramos (FR/Belize) notched his first career goal and game winner to give the Racers a decisive 2-1 win.
Echevarria finished with four shots and two on goal. Cameron Power (SO/Ireland) took three shots, putting one on goal, and Lucas Vazquez (SR/Buenos Aires, Argentina) put both his shots on goal.
Danilo Abayo went the full 90 in front of goal making five saves in the match.
"It was a big game today to have to go into Indiana Wesleyan and get a result," said Head Coach Tyler Brock. "They're always a team that comes out really strong at home and they did just that. We were able to put together a pretty good first half and find a goal to put us on the front foot. The second half was pretty even and they found a goal to equalize. I was so impressed with our boys' response after that goal."
They teams finished level on shots 13-13 while UNOH held a slight edge is shots on goal 7-6. The teams combined for 34 fouls and five bookings in the match.
"I thought our entire back line played well and Danilo [Abayo] came up with a couple big saves as well," Brock continued. "It was just an overall great team effort. We had subs come off the bench that raised the game and helped us in times of need. That's what it takes."
UNOH conintues their tough non-conference schedule when they head to #18 Grace on Saturday, September 10.
