LIMA, OH - Goals came early and often as UNOH men's soccer (9-1-3, 4-1-1) picked up a statement win October 12 against Cleary (3-6-4, 1-3-2).
In the 13th minute, Tomas Ulla (SO/Cordoba, Argentina) attempted to send a ball in but it deflected off a defenders arm in the box giving UNOH a penalty kick. Cameron Power (SO/Waterford, Ireland) stepped to the spot and went bottom right corner under the keeper for the first goal of the match. Less than four minutes later, SImon Von Benzon was fouled about two yards outside the box giving UNOH a dangerous free kick. Kuba Kacperski (FR/Almere, Netherlands) took advantage of the opportunity, sending the ball over the wall and past the keeper for the the second goal of the match. The Racers found one more goal in the first half thanks to Lucas Vazquez (SR/Buenos Aires, Argentina) who took a short cornerkick pass from Cameron Power about 25 yards out. Vazquez saw no defenders around him so he took on the keeper from distance and put the ball in the bottom right corner for a 3-0 lead at the break.
The scoring continued just a few minutes into the second half. Cameron Power split three defenders with a pass from the left side of the box that found Tomas Echevarria (JR/Montevideo, Uruguay) on the opposite side for a open net goal. Power threaded the needle again from the left side after beating two defenders in the 54th minute. He sent the ball to Echevarria once more who side stepped a defender and finished inside the near post for his tenth goal of the season. Echevarria created another chance in the 62nd minute sending a perfect cross into the box to find Simon Von Benzon (FR/Denmark). Benzon beat the keeper with his head but the shot deflected back out off the post. Benzon reacted first poking the rebound past the keeper with his left foot and giving the Racers a 6-0 lead. The post came to the Racers aid again in the 67th minute. Avelino Rosa (FR/Lisbon, Portugal) took a crack from the top right corner of the box. The ball beat the diving keeper but deflected straight back out off the frame of the goal right in front of Diego Cerezo (JR/Colmenar Viejo, Madrid, Spain). Cerezo didn't hesitate sending the ball into the back of the net before the Cougar goal keeper could react.
Six different Racers bagged a goal in the match as UNOH racked up 31 total shots with 16 on goal. The Racers gave up just three shots in the match and only two on goal. It's the programs highest scoring output since September 22, 2018 (7-1, Rochester) and the largest margin of victory since October 4, 2017 (9-0, UM-Dearborn)
