Twilight Goal Spoils Match for UNOH

RIO GRANDE, OH - UNOH men's soccer looked like they would steal a result from No. 4 Rio Grande, but a late goal in the dying embers of the match sealed the win for the Red Storm.

The match was slow to develop as the teams combined for just three shots over the first 28 minutes. The 29th minute saw the Red Storm break through on the fourth and final shot of the first half.

The Racers benefited from a friendly bounce of the ball to tie things up five minutes into the second half. Austin Miller powered a shot at Rio's keeper who made the initial save but could only deflect the ball away. The ball then richocheted off a Red Storm defender from the save and back into the net. Rio Grande began a heavy assault that saw them outshoot UNOH 11-2 over the next 37 minutes. Ross Synnott made four saves during that span to keep the game tied, but the final shot of the game was chipped over Synnott and into an open net giving Rio Grande a 2-1 win over the Racers.

The Red Storm outshot UNOH 15-5 in the match and 9-4 on goal. The teams combined for 21 fouls and seven yellow cards.

In his first career start with the Racers, Ross Synnott (0-1-0) made seven saves, the third most in program history, going the full 90 to take the loss.

UNOH will get a week off before they head to No. 10 Grace next Wednesday, September 20, for their second straight night game. Kickoff in slated for 7:00 PM at 1st Source Bank Field in Winona Lake, Indiana.
