SYLVANIA, OH - UNOH survived a trip up I-75 with a penalty kick shootout victory of Lourdes to advance to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Semifinals on Wednesday.
The quarterfinal matchup felt like a repeat of the regular season showdown when the two teams finished 1-1 after 90 minutes of play. For the second time this season, UNOH and Lourdes bagged one goal each in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net again. Mortiz Guettel scored early for the Racers in the sixth minute, but the Gray Wolves answered in the 30th minute to even the match. Unlike the first meeting, this time a winner had to be crowned and an extra 20 minutes of overtime still couldn't produce a decisive goal.
Penalty kicks ensued with UNOH going four-for-four to take the win 4-2 and advance to the semifinals. Top seed (RV) Aquinas had no trouble in their first round matchup against Siena Heights winning 4-1 to lock their spot in the semis.
The two teams will meet on Wednesday, November 8, with a trip to the WHAC Championship on the line.
