GRAND RAPIDS, MI - In a match that looked destined for overtime, (RV) Aquinas stole the night with an 89th minute goal to end the 2024 campaign for UNOH, 2-1.
The Racers notched first in the 33rd minute with Eguzki Hashimoto beating several defenders off the dribble before feeding Natxo Sanchez in the middle who finished past the keeper for a 1-0 lead. That score held into the final half hour before Aquinas played a lucky bounce that caught the keeper off guard and leveled the match. With less than two minutes to play, it looked like the game would need extra time to decide a winner, but the Saints got in behind the Racer defence one final time. The attacked yielded a one-on-one with a charging keeper and WHAC's leading scorer won the race to the ball and lifted it over the keeper with just enough to cross the line giving Aquinas a 2-1 win over UNOH in the WHAC Quarterfinals.
Jack Cook made six saves giving up two goals over 90 minutes to take the loss and finish 2-4-2 this season.
