Men's Tennis Wins 2025 WHAC Tournament Title
For the tenth time in a row, UNOH men's tennis completed the season sweep of both the WHAC Regular Season and Tournament titles with a 4-0 win over (RV) Lawrence Tech on Wednesday.
The match played much closer than the final scoreline showed with the Racers taking the first point of the day with wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Their singles victories came in the second, third and fourth line holding off the Blue Devils in one, five and six.
Lucas Perez and Carlos Hernandez finished first in No. 2 doubles winning 6-2 with Mete Koseoglu and Florian Smalto dropping No. 3 5-7. UNOH clinched the doubles point with Francisco Perez and Lucas Grana finishing off the first line 6-4.
The first singles point came in the No. 4 position as Grana made quick work of his opponent 6-1, 6-0. Koseoglu came next winning 6-1, 6-4 in the second line followed by Lucas Perez in third line clinching the match with a 7-5, 6-4 victory. Francisco Perez went unfinished at No. 1 but led 6-3, 5-2 and Smalto did the same at No. 5 up 6-3, 5-3. Hernandez won his first set of the sixth line 6-4 and trailed 2-4 in set two when the match concluded.
With the tournament title in the bag, UNOH earns the WHAC's automatic bid to the 73rd Annual Men's Tennis National Championships. The First Round of the tournament will open on May 13 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama culminating with the National Championship on Saturday, May 17.
