Men's Tennis Defeats MoBap to Advance in NAIA Tournament

MOBILE, AL - UNOH men's tennis advanced out of the First Round of the NAIA National Championship Tuesday with a 4-2 win over No. 24 Missouri Baptist.

The Racers won the doubles point to open the match taking second and third lines. They fell in singles one and four but took the win in two, three, and five to clinch the match.

Lucas Perez and Carlos Hernandez won their No. 2 doubles 7-5 with Mete Koseoglu and Florian Smalto winning 6-1 at No. 3. Koseoglu lost first line singles 1-6, 2-6 and Carlos Hernandez fell 2-6, 4-6 in the fourth line. Francisco Perez won the second line 6-1, 6-2, Lucas Perez took the third line 6-3, 6-4 and Lucas Grana finished off fifth line 6-2, 6-2. Florian Smalto was the only unfinished matchup but led 7-5, 3-1 when the match was clinched.

The win moves UNOH into the Second Round where they will face No. 6 Lindsey Wilson Wednesday, May 14 at 1:00 PM EST. It will be the third time the two teams have met this season with the Racers winning 4-3 at the ITA Indoor Championships back in February and the Blue Raiders taking the second matchup 4-1 at the Racer Inviational in March.
