Softball: UNOH Loses Both Ends of Opening Double-Header

WILLIAMSBURG, KY - #24 Cumberlands (2-0) jumped out early against UNOH (0-2) in the season opener for both teams. The Patriots ran away with game one 9-0 before holding on in game two 3-1.

Game 1: UC 9 UNOH 0

Two errors scored the first two runs as Cumberlands took a 3-0 lead after one. The Patriots added four more in the third and two in the fourth to go up 9-0. The Racers went down 1-2-3 in the fifth and Cumberlands took the the run-rule victory.

Anna Ankney (SO/Ney, Ohio) went 2-2 with a stolen base as the only multi-hit Racer. Sidney Unger (FR/Tipp City, Ohio) and Chloe Goulter (FR/Centerburg, Ohio) each had one hit in the game.

Carlie Hanes (JR/Antwerp, Ohio) got the start and the loss going three innings with four earned runs off seven hits. Jaylyn Mullenax (FR/Bristol, Ohio) tossed the final frame giving up two earned runs off three hits with two strikeouts.

Game 2: UC 3 UNOH 1

The Patriots scored first in the bottom of the first and added one in the third and fourth innings. UNOH kept Cumberlands off the board in the fifth and sixth to give themselves three outs to tie the game. With two outs and runners on the corners, Sidney Unger singled down the third base line to score Alexis D'Alexander (FR/Canton, Michigan) but the comeback was thwarted as the Patriots took the game 3-1.

Chloe Goulter went 2-4 in the game with a stolen base and Sidney Unger was credited with the lone RBI.

Karsyn McGlothen (FR/St. Mary's, Ohio) started in the circle and picked up the loss after going four innings giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Carlie Hanes pitched the final two giving up just one hit and one walk.
