Racers Lose Defensive Bout at #24 Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, KY - The only run of the game came in the fourth, but it was enough to give #24 Cumberlands (3-0) a 1-0 win over UNOH (0-3)

Both pitchers tossed a complete game but combined to give up ten hits with just three strikeouts. The low scoring affair was more about defenses than pitchers and was ultimately decided in kind. Each team created chances and each team recovered to keep the game scoreless after three and a half innings. After a lead-off double in home fourth, an overthrow at first plated the first and only run of the game. It was the only defensive mistake of the game as 18 of the next 21 batters were put away without incident giving Cumberlands a 1-0 win.

Chloe Goulter (FR/Centerburg, Ohio) recorded her second multi-hit game in the first three going 2-3 at the plate. Tess Denning (SO/Dalton, Ohio) and Autumn Pelok (FR/Wauseon, Ohio) each recorded one hit in the game.

Carlie Hanes (JR/Antwerp, Ohio) went the distance and took the loss giving no earned runs off six hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

UNOH will head back to Kentucky for a four-game series against Georgetown College on February 18-19.
