Softball: Racers Split Two at Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, KY - UNOH (1-4) and Georgetown (2-2) split the first two games of a four-game series on Saturday, February 18. The Racers took game one 5-4 before the Tigers rallied for a 12-7 win in game two.

Game 1: UNOH 5 GC 4

After a lead-off double in the first, Dani Keighley (SO/Chesterfield, Michigan) went up the middle for a RBI-single and put UNOH up 1-0. Georgetown put up one in the fourth, but the game stayed 1-1 through five. Tess Denning (SO/Dalton, Ohio) blasted a two-run homer in the top of the sixth, but the Tigers strung together a few hits in the bottom that brought in three. Trailing 4-3, the Racers were down to their last three outs. UNOH loaded the bases and Dani Keighley delivered again with a single that scored two. Georgetown couldn't get their bats going in the home seventh giving the Racers their first win of the season.

Tess Denning was a perfect 2-2 with two RBI. Chloe Goulter (FR/Centerburg, Ohio), Sidney Unger (FR/Tipp City, Ohio) and Dani Keighley were each 2-4. Keighley finished with three RBI and Goulter scored twice.

Carlie Hanes (JR/Antwerp, Ohio) got the start and went five innings giving up one run off three hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Karsyn McGlothen (FR/St. Mary's, Ohio) tossed an inning and a third in relief picking up her first career win. McGlothen gave up three runs, one earned, off four hits. Jaylyn Mullenax (FR/Bristol, Ohio) got the final two outs with no hits to earn her first career save.

Game 2: GC 12 UNOH 7

The Racers picked up where they left off in game two plating three runs in their first at-bat. After Chloe Goulter and Sidney Unger walked, Dani Keighley singled down the left field line bringing in the first run of the inning. Anna Ankney (SO/Ney, Ohio) followed with a two-run homer to put UNOH up 3-0. Three straight singles brought in two more in the second but Georgetown responded with three in the bottom of the frame. Two errors and a fielder's choice gave the Racers another run in the third as the offenses continued to put up runs. The Tigers scored four in the bottom and held a 7-6 lead after four. UNOH managed to tie the game thanks to a RBI-single from Audrey Schau (FR/Scotts, Michigan) in the fifth, but Georgetown's offense continued to roll with three more. A couple insurance runs in the home sixth gave the Tigers a 12-7 lead that would hold as the final score.

Dani Keighley and Anna Ankney both went 2-4 in the game. Keighley brought in three RBI and Ankney finished with two.

Jaylyn Mullenax started and pitched two and two-thirds innings giving up seven runs, six earned, off seven hits with one walk. Karsyn McGlothen went the final three and a third to take the loss. McGlothen gave up five runs, all earned, off seven hits.

The Racers and Tigers wrap up the four-game series on Sunday, February 19. Game three first pitched is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
