Racers Win First Two Games in Florida

CLERMONT, FL - UNOH (6-5) opened their Florida trip with two wins Sunday, March 5. The Racers started with a 3-1 win over (RV) Bellevue (4-4) and followed up with a 9-1 run-rule win over Carlow.

Game 1: UNOH 3 Bellevue 1

The first hit of the game scored the first run of the game in the top of the second putting Bellevue up 1-0. UNOH finally got going in the bottom of the third after two singles and a walk loaded the bases. With one out, Anna Ankney hit a sac fly to left field that brought in one. A wild pitch and an error scored two more runs and the Racers were up 3-1. The two teams combined for just one hit the rest of the game as UNOH took the win.

Sidney Unger was the only multi-hit Racer going 2-3 at the plate. Zoe Johnson and Anna Ankney each registered a RBI in the game.

Carlie Hanes (4-1) tossed her fourth complete game of the season to pick up the win. Hanes gave up one run off two hits with six strikeouts and five walks.

Game 2: UNOH 9 Carlow 1 (6 Innings)

UNOH wasted no time taking control in game two of the day. Sidney Unger opened with a lead-off triple and Chloe Goulter singled up the gut for the first run of the game. Anna Ankney brought in another and Alexis D'Alexander scored two thanks to a error by the pitcher. The Racers put the Celtics down in order and went into the second up 4-0. Unger again got the offense started with a lead-off single. A fielder's choice, an error and a walk loaded the bases and Payton Albright brought them all around with a double down the left field line. Up 7-0, the Racers' offense dried up but their defense took care of business not allowing a single hit through the fifth. Megan Miller finally got things going again with a lead-off single and Tess Denning brought her around with a double on the left side. Anna Ankney followed with her own double and UNOH was up 9-0. Carlow managed to finally get on the board in the bottom of the inning, but was their only run as the Racers took the run-rule win.

Sidney Unger, Tess Denning, Anna Ankney and Autumn Pelok all finished 2-3 at the plate. Albright led with three RBI while Alexis D'Alexander and Anna Ankney each had two.

Jaylyn Mullenax (1-2) picked up her first career win after throwing five hitless innings with four strikeouts and one walk. Kiya Benschoter threw the final inning giving up one run off two hits with one walk.

The Racers continue THE Spring Games Monday morning against Calumet and Mount Vernon Nazarene.
