CLERMONT, FL - UNOH (7-6) couldn't overcome a seven-run third inning losing game one 10-7 to Calumet (5-8) but rallied in game two to take a 5-3 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene (6-1).
Game 1: CCSJ 10 UNOH 7
The Racers used small ball to bring in the first run of the game in the second inning. After a lead-off double from Anna Ankney, a single sandwiched between two bunts brought her home and put UNOH up 1-0. The Crimson Wave answered with two of their own in the bottom to take the lead and put the Racers down in order in the top of the third. Calumet opened the flood gates in the home third thanks to five hits, three walks and two errors that scored seven runs for a commanding 9-1 lead. Payton Albright hit a two-out solo homer in the fourth and Anna Ankney cracked a three-run shot in the fifth to make it a 9-5 game. After the Crimson Wave added an insurance run in the home fifth, Anna Ankney again came up big for the Racers with a two-RBI double in the sixth cutting the lead to 10-7. Zoe Johnson led off the final frame for UNOH with a single, but a rip down the first base line from Sindey Unger was snagged by the first baseman who completed the unassisted double play to end the game.
Anna Ankney finished with a career high five RBI after going 3-4 at the plate. Payton Albright went 3-3 with a RBI, Sydney Feestra was 2-3 with a RBI and Zoe Johnson was 2-4.
Karsyn McGlothen (1-2) was forced out in the second after giving up six runs off five hits with five walks to take the loss. Jaylyn Mullenax went the final four giving up four runs, two earned, off six hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
Game 2: UNOH 5 MVNU 3
The Cougars led off the game with two singles and two sac flies to score one in the first. Sidney Unger tied the game with a RBI single in the home second and both teams came up empty in the third. Mount Vernon found some momentum in fourth with three straight two-out singles that scored two. Zoe Johnson got one back for the Racers with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning. Another Ankney double followed by a RBI single from Dani Keighley tied the game at 3-3 after five innings. Defenses took over and the game entered the bottom of the seventh still tied. After Tess Denning walked, Anna Ankney completed her monster day with a two-run walk-off homer giving the Cougars their first loss of the season.
Anna Ankney went 2-4 with two RBI and Sidney Unger was 2-3 with one RBI.
Carlie Hanes (5-1) threw her fifth complete game of the season to pick up the win. Hanes gave up three runs off 12 hits with one strikeout and no walks.
UNOH will open day three in Florida with a rematch againt MVNU before taking on Judson in game two.
