LIMA, OH - UNOH (15-12, 4-2) got off to another hot start in game one against Concordia (22-10, 2-2), running out to an 8-1 win. The Racers had to battle back in a tight game two but used two late runs to earn a 4-2 victory.
Game 1: UNOH 8 CUAA 1
After holding down the Cardinals to start the game, UNOH laced together five straight hits to go up 4-0 after one. The Racers worked around Concordia again in the second and Sydney Unger added another run in the bottom. The teams combined for just one hit in the third and the game entered the fourth inning with UNOH up 5-0. A bloop single and double finally got the Cardinals on the board in the top, but the Racers added on in the bottom. Tess Denning got things started with a two-out double down the left field line. Anna Ankney singled to put two on the bags and Dani Keighley plated them both with her own double to the right field fence. UNOH retired the side for the second time in the game to start the fifth and Chloe Goulter gave the Racers their eighth run with a double off the the fence in right center. Concordia sprinkled in three more hits over their next two at-bats but couldn't get on board.
Dani Keighley led the tea with three going 2-4 at the plate. Sidney Unger finished 3-4 with an RBI while Chloe Goulter, Tess Denning, and Anna Ankney all went 2-4 with one RBI each.
Carlie Hanes (9-5) pitched her ninth complete game of the season giving up just one run off seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.
Game 2: UNOH 4 CUAA 2
The Racers managed just two hits over the first two innings and fell behind 2-0 after Concordia plated one in the second and one in the third. With runners on second and third, Anna Ankney tied the game with one swing of the bat sending one into the left center gap. The game became a pitchers duel at 2-2 with just three combined hits over the next two and a half frames. Finally UNOH broke through in the home sixth with a double and a single that put runners on the corners. Sydney Shaffer followed with a RBI ground out that put the Racers on top and Zoe Johnson sent one up the gut that brought in another. UNOH retired the side in the seventh for the second straight inning to take the win.
Anna Ankney recorded her 13th multi-hit game of the season going 2-3 with two RBI. Dani Keighley extended her hit streak to seven games with her third straight multi-hit outing. Sydney Shaffer and Zoe Johnson each added an RBI in the game.
Jaylyn Mullenax got her seventh start of the season and went four innings giving up both runs off eight hits with a strikeout and no walks. Karsyn McGlothen (2-3) made her first appearance in eight games picking up the win after three innings of no-hit work.
UNOH head to Rochester on Sunday, April 2, to take on the Warriors with game one first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM.
