Racers and Saints Split Non-Conference Showdown

LIMA, OH - A three-run first inning powered Thomas More (18-13) past the Racers 4-3 in game one. UNOH (20-13) scored in all but one inning of game two, holding on for a 9-8 win.

Game 1: TMU 4 UNOH 3

The Saints did most of their work their first time up bagging three to take an early lead. A two-out double from Anna Ankney got one back but Thomas More added their fourth in the second. Six straight batters retired in order before the Racers hit back-to-back singles to open the home third. Sidney Unger moved the runners with a sac bunt and used an infield ground out to cut the score to 4-2. The next inning and a half saw three hits but no runs between the teams. Tess Denning was responsible for the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth with a solo shot to right field. The offenses went cold again as the pitcher took over with just one combined hit over the final two and a half innings.

Chloe Goulter was the only multi-hit Racer going 2-4. Tess Denning finished with two RBI and Anna Ankney added one.

Kiya Benschoter (0-1) took the loss in her first career start. Benschoter went an inning and a third giving up all four runs off five hits with two walks and a one strikeout. Jaylyn Mullenax pitched a brilliant five and two-thirds innings in relief giving up just four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Game 2: UNOH 9 TMU 8

Again Thomas More cracked the scoreboard first plating one off two hits in the first. A walk, a single and a sac bunt put runners on second and third before a wild pitch brought home both. Chloe Goulter hit her second triple of the season scoring one with two outs in the second. Anna Ankney followed with a single up the gut bring in Goulter from third. The Saints scored one in the third and two in the fourth tying the game at 4-4. UNOH linked three straight hits in the bottom capped by Anna Ankney's 16th double of the season that put the Racers back up 6-4. After a pitching change, Ankney ended up scoring herself thanks to another wild pitch. UNOH added another in the fifth thanks to a lead off double, a sacrifice bunt and an error. Now down 8-4, Thomas More didn't roll over stringing together a double and two singles for a three-run inning. Dani Keighley hit the team's third double of the game in the home sixth for an insurance run headed into the final frame. A couple errors cost the Racers a run with two outs, but final out came by way of a strikeout for the double-header split.

Anna Ankney was a perfect 4-4 in the game, a career best, extending her hit streak to ten games bringing in three RBI. Dani Keighley also didn't miss going 2-2 while Chloe Goulter finished 2-3.

Karsyn McGlothen got the start going three innings. McGlothen gave up four runs off six hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Jaylyn Mullenax (6-4) got the decision giving up three runs, two earned, off six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Kiya Benschoter picked up her first career save tossing the final frame with one run off one hit and two strikeouts.
