UNOH Wins Non-Conference Twinbill Against OCU

LIMA, OH - A five-run second inning for UNOH (22-13) fueled a 7-4 win in game one of the day. Ohio Christian (17-13) couldn't get out of their own way in game two giving up eight unearned runs thanks to eight errors as the Racers rolled in five 11-1.

Game 1: UNOH 7 OCU 4

The first inning came and went without a hit for either team. A two-out RBI single gave the Trailblazers the first run of the game but the lead was short-lived. A walk and an error put runners on the corner for Hailee Edgell who brought in the first for UNOH with a shot up the middle. Autumn Pelok brought in the second thanks to another error and Sydney Shaffer scored two more with a single to right. A fifth run scored off an RBI ground out from Anna Ankney to put the Racers up 5-1 after two. Anna Ankney kept her hit streak alive with a RBI single in the home fourth and UNOH led 6-1 headed into the fifth. Ohio Christian managed to get their offense going plating three, but Hailee Edgell added the final run of the game with a RBI single in the bottom of the inning.

Hailee Edgell and Sydney Shaffer each earned their first multi-hit and multi-RBI game of their careers. Shaffer was 2-2 and Edgell was 2-3 both finishing with two RBI. Anna Ankney was just 1-4 but recorded her twelveth multi-RBI game of the season with two RBI.

Karsyn McGlothen (4-3) tossed her second complete game of the season to pick up the win. McGlothen gave up four runs off ten hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

Game 2: UNOH 11 OCU 1 (5 Innings)

An error helped Ohio Christian get their first and only run of the game but it was all Racers after that. Anna Ankney led off the home first taking the first pitch she saw and sending it over the right field fence. An error and a ground out finished off the inning and put UNOH up 2-1. A passed ball and an error in the second gave UNOH two more and control of the game. After being retired in order in the top of the third, the Trailblazers saw the game slip away in the bottom. Two singles, a walk and an error plated two before another walk and a groundout brought in another. Two more runs scored off a dropped fly ball in center field and Dani Keighley hit an RBI single for one more. A seven-run Racer inning was capped off by yet another error and the game was 11-1 after three. Ohio Christian only managed one more hit their next two at-bats giving UNOH their sixth run-rule win of the campaign.

Sydney Feenstra was the only Racer with multple RBI getting both on just one at-bat in the game. Anna Ankney managed to extend her hitting streak to twelve games and 24 of the last 25.

Kiya Benschoter (1-1) earned her first career win with her first career complete game. Benschoter's only run was unearned off just four hits and one walk.

UNOH heads back into conference play with a four-game trip to Grand Rapids this weekend. The Racers will take on Cornerstone Friday, April 14 before facing Aquinas Saturday.
