Racers Sweep in Regular Season Finale
ROCHESTER HILLS, MI - UNOH (30-17, 16-6) took care of business against the league's bottom team with 4-0 and 12-0 wins at Rochester (2-25, 0-21) in the final two games of the regular season. The Racers' 16 conference wins matches the program's record set last year as they finish the regular season second in league standings, the program's highest finish.
Game 1: UNOH 4 Rochester 0
Anna Ankney put the Racers on the board first in the third with a double down the line that scored Payton Albright. The rest of the offensive work came in the sixth when consecutive singles set a two RBI double from Zoe Johnson. Hailee Edgell brought in Johnson with a single into the left putting UNOH up 4-0.
Zoe Johnson finished 2-3 with two RBI and Anna Ankney went 2-4 with one RBI. Payton Albright had her first multi-hit game since March 21 going 2-3 at the plate.
Carlie Hanes (12-7) tossed her sixth complete game shutout scatter four hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Game 2: UNOH 12 Rochester 0 (5 Innings)
It looked like the Warriors may escape the first inning unscathed, but the Racers went to work with two outs. With runners on second and third, Chloe Goulter doubled to left bringing in two and Hailee Edgell ripped her second triple in the last four games to score a third. The offense continued to pour it on their next time up with a lead off double from Sydney Shaffer followed by a RBI single from Autumn Pelok up the middle. Another double, this time from Dani Keighley, put runners on second and third bringing up Tess Denning with two outs. Denning put a charge in the ball and sent it over the fence in the deepest part of the field for her league leading ninth home run of the season. The third inning was the biggest of the day for UNOH as the Racers plated five. Sydney Shaffer set the tone with her first career home run with one out. Three straight singles followed to score another and Zoe Johnson doubled to left, scoring two more. Tess Denning and Megan Miller linked together two more singles to score the fifth putting the Racers up 12-0. Rochester couldn't get any offense going over the next two frames giving UNOH the season finale sweep.
Tess Denning led the way going 2-2 with three RBI. Zoe Johnson and Chloe Goulter combined to go 2-5 with four RBI in the game. Autumn Pelok finished a career best 3-3 and Sydney Shaffer was 2-4, each with one RBI.
Jaylyn Mullenax (12-5) picked up the win after pitching four innings giving up six hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Karsyn McGlothen threw the final three outs with one walk, one strikeout and no hits.
UNOH will now begin to prepare for the WHAC Tournament played at Pacesetter Park in Sylvania, Ohio May 3-5. The Racers will face Cornerstone to open their tournament play in the two-seven matchup on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
