Cornerstone (MI)
Michigan-Dearborn
SYLVANIA, OH - On a day highlighted by upsets, No. 2 seeded UNOH joined top seed Indiana Tech as the first two teams eliminated from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Softball Tournament. The Racers got bumped into the consolation bracket after falling 4-2 in their first game of the day against Cornerstone. UM-Dearborn knocked UNOH out in game two 4-0, ending the Racers' season at 30-19.
Game 1: Cornerstone 4 UNOH 2
The Golden Eagles took an early 2-0 lead with a solo home run in each of the first two innings. UNOH finally got on the board in the fourth after stringing together a couple hits and an error that brought Zoe Johnson home. Two errors in the top of the fifth proved costly allowing two runs to score that would prove the difference in the game. Tess Denning managed to get one back with her own solo shot in the bottom of the frame, but the Racers were held hitless in the sixth and the seventh to fall into the consolation bracket.
Tess Denning and Zoe Johnson each went 2-3 in the game with Denning recording the only RBI for the Racers.
Carlie Hanes (12-8) threw her 15th complete game of the season to take the loss after giving up four runs, two earned, off seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Game 2: UMD 4 UNOH 0
UM-Dearborn found paydirt on their first hit of the game hitting a solo homer to left center in the the second inning. A sac fly and a single scored two more in the third and a single in the sixth added the fourth for the Wolverines. UNOH outhit Dearborn 8-7, but the timeliness of the hits wasn't there for an early exit from the WHAC Tournament.
Dani Keighley went 3-4 and Sydney Shaffer finished 2-3 in the game.
Jaylyn Mullenax (12-6) pitched the first three innings to take the loss. Mullenax gave up three runs off four hits with one walk and one strikeout.
