COLUMBIA, KY - UNOH softball made the trip down to Kentucky to face Lindsey Wilson on Sunday, run-ruling game one 11-1 and sneaking out a 3-1 win in game two.
UNOH jumped out quickly with four in their first at-bat. A bases loaded walk and a bases loaded triple did the damage in the first. A single and a wild pitch added two more in the second before the Racers capped their performance with five in the fourth. Zoe Johnson scored the first with a bases loaded fielder's choice and Tess Denning followed with a double that scored three and empty the pond. Payton Albright finished off the scoring with a single up the gut and UNOH retired six of the next seven batters to end the game in five.
Dani Keighley was the only Racer with multiple hits going 2-3 at the plate with one RBI. Tess Denning led the team with four RBI while Carlie Hanes recorded her first career triple finishing with three RBI.
Hanes (1-2) also tossed her first complete game of the season to pick up the win giving up one run on just three hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
Game two stayed tighter but it was again UNOH getting on the board first with an error in their first at-bat. That solo run would hold for the next four and a half innings as the teams combined for just five hits. A leadoff double from Dani Keighley followed by a Tess Denning home run finally broke the drought in the sixth putting UNOH up 3-0. The Blue Raiders hit a solo shot of their own in the bottom but it was their only run of the game as the Racers finished off the seventh for the 3-1 win.
Dani Keighley finished with her second multi-hit game of the day going 2-4 at the plate. Sydney Shaffer went 2-3 while matching the program's single game record with three stolen bases.
Karsyn McGlothen (2-1) earned the complete game win giving up just one run on six hits with one strikeout and no walks.
UNOH makes their annual trip to Florida next that will see them play twelve games over seven days. The Racers will open the 2024 Space Coast Spring Games with Columbia International on Thursday, March 14 and wrap up against Dallas Christian on Wednesday, March 20.
