MELBOURNE, FL - On day one of their annual trip to Florida, UNOH softball split their first two games with a shutout win over Columbia International, 5-0, followed by a tight 3-1 loss to MidAmerica Nazarene.
The Racers opened their first ever trip to the Space Coast Spring Games with a first ever meeting against Columbia International. UNOH did most of their damage in the second inning thanks to back-to-back two-out triples that brought in four of their five runs. Dani Keighley singled in the final inning to score the final run as the Racers held the Rams to just four hits in the game.
Dani Keighley and Anna Ankney were responsible for all five of the Racer runs. Keighley recorded her third straight multi-hit game going 3-4 at the dish with two RBI. All three of Ankney's RBI came off her triple in the second.
Carlie Hanes (2-2) scattered just four hits over her six innings with two walks and six strikeouts. Kiya Benschoter threwed a hitless final inning striking out two and walking one.
In game two, UNOH got on the board first in the second with the first career home run for Hailee Edgell but the excitement was short-lived as the Pioneers scored three in the top of the third. The two teams combined for five hits over the final four and a half innings but neither team could plate another run.
Karsyn McGlothen (2-2) took the loss after four and two-thirds innings of work. McGlothen gave up three runs, one earned, off four hits while walking three batters. Emily Norris pitched the final two and a third giving up just one hit.
