Racers Sweep Through Day Two in Florida

MELBOURNE, FL - UNOH began their second day in Florida with a thrilling 4-3 win over (RV) Missouri Baptist that took nine innings to decide. The Racers carried that success into their second game against Florida National pulling out a 3-1 win.

A passed ball resulted in the first run of game one putting the Spartans up 1-0 after one. Each team had one hit in the second but neither offense could produce any consistency. A lead-off triple to start the third set up the tying run for UNOH but Missouri Baptist answered with one of their own in the bottom. Six straight batters went down in order in the fourth before back-to-back two-out singles in the fifth tied the game again for the Racers. UNOH mowed down the next nine Spartan batters but couldn't get the go-ahead run sending the game into extra innings. The two teams mirrored each other in the eighth with both scoring their third run on sac flies forcing one more inning. The Racers again plated a run in their half of the inning but this time retired the side to finish off the 4-3 win.

Hailee Edgell led the team with a season best 3-4 at the plate and Sydney Shaffer finished with a team high two RBI.

Carlie Hanes (3-2) went the distance logging the third most innings in program history. Hanes gave up six hits but just one earned run while walking three and striking out two.

UNOH put away the first six batters they faced in game two, but couldn't get a run across until the third. A Sydney Shaffer single brought in two with two outs to put the Racers on top. After a scoreless fourth, Carlie Hanes ripped a two-out triple setting up Shaffer again to add to the lead with a RBI single. The Conquistadors were able to score one in their final at-bat but left runners on the corners pushing the Racers to 3-1 to start their Florida trip.

Sydney Shaffer, Sydney Feenstra and Alexis D'Alexander all went 2-3 in the game while Shaffer earned the team's only two RBI. Dani Keighley completed her fifth multi-hit game in the past six going 2-4 at the dish.

Karsyn McGlothen (3-2) was in control through all seven innings of work giving up one run on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Day three of the Space Coast Spring Games will pit UNOH against St. Ambrose in a doubleheader format beginning at 1:00 PM.
