Racers Lose First, Win Second on Day Four in Florida

MELBOURNE, FL - UNOH led through four innings against Hastings but saw the Mustangs rally to steal the win, 7-3, in the Racers' first game of the day. UNOH rebounded in game two with a five-inning romp over Dallas Christian, 14-0.

Hastings scored one in their first at-bat but the Racers put up two in the second and one in the third to go up 3-1 after three. The Broncos homered in the fourth but did most of their work in the fifth scoring four and taking over the lead, 6-3. They added one more in the sixth and the UNOH offense went dry to take the 7-3 loss. Zoe Johnson was the only Racer with multiple hits going 2-3 in the game. Carlie Hanes (3-4) took the loss giving up six runs, four earned, on six hits striking out four and walking one in four and two-thirds innings. Kiya Benshoter finished the final two and a third with one run given up on three hits with two strikeouts.

The frustrating loss in game one motivated UNOH into game two where they blew things open with one swing in the first inning. Dani Keighley continued her outstanding start to the season with a three-run bomb over the left field fence, her first of the season. The offense continued to roll into the second with four more hits, including an Anna Ankney triple, that plated four and put the Racers up 7-0. After adding one in the fourth, they capped the day with six runs in the fifth while holding the Crusaders to just one hit in the game.

Four Racers had multiple hits with nine combining to match their season best 13 hits in the game. Dani Keighley and Paige Becker both earned a season bests in RBI. Keighley was 2-3 at the dish with a team high four RBI and Becker finished 2-2 with three. Karsyn McGlothen (4-2) pitched all five innings for her first complete game one-hitter while striking out three and walking two.

UNOH will begin day five of the Space Coast Spring Games against Saint Mary before a rematch against Hastings in game two.
