MELBOURNE, FL - Another strong offensive performance combined by a two-hit outing for Carlie Hanes shaped a 4-0 win for UNOH over St. Mary in the first game of day five. Game two was a rematch against Hastings that saw the two teams combine for 31 hits and 16 runs in a nine-inning battle. The Broncos stole the show again plating five runs in the final frame to win 10-6 over the Racers.
Despite 14 hits, UNOH struggled to get runs on the board against St. Mary. However, Carlie Hanes (4-4) was brilliant in the circle giving up just two hits while striking out seven and walking two. With the Racers scoring two in the second, one in the fifth and one in the sixth they chipped away for the 4-0 win. They set a new season mark with four doubles in the game while also matching the program's best with three triples, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since 2016.
Game two was 1-1 after three innings before Hastings opened things up with three in the fourth. UNOH was finally able to find run production from their hot offense answer with three of their own in the sixth. The Broncos went down in order in the top of the seventh but the Racers couldn't take advantage of three hits in the bottom forcing extra innings. International Tie-Breaker rules kicked in setting both teams to score one in the eighth, but in the ninth UNOH couldn't stop the bleeding as Hastings rolled five to take control 10-5. Despite getting one run back, the Racers couldn't get a comeback going falling 10-6.
Six batters combined for a season high 17 hits led by Payton Albright and Hailee Edgell with four each, both career highs. Alexis D'Alexander also finished with a career best going 3-5 with two RBI. Karsyn McGlothen (4-3) took the loss with five and a third innings of work. She gave up nine runs, four earned, on ten hits with three strikeouts. Kiya Benschoter threw three and two thirds innings with one run unearned off four hits with one walk and one strikeout.
UNOH ends their week-long Florida trip tomorrow against Fort Lauderdale at 10:00 AM followed by Dallas Christian at 12:15 PM.
