UNOH Bats Stay Hot as They End Florida Trip with Two Wins

MELBOURNE, FL - Wednesday, UNOH softball ended their weeklong trip to Florida with two wins over Fort Lauderdale, 8-0, and Dallas Christian, 9-2, in the Space Coast Spring Games. The Racers finish 8-4 on the trip and have now logged double-digit hits in five straight games outscoring their opponents 41-12 in that stretch.
A dazzling one-hit performance by Carlie Hanes (5-4) helped her team pull away from Fort Lauderdale in the first ever meeting between the two programs. Hanes walked only one while striking out a season high ten over just five innings of work. The Racer offense took advantage with three runs in the first, two in the second and three more in the fourth to finish off the run-rule win. Tess Denning was a perfect 3-3 at the dish, a season high, while Anna Ankney and Dani Keighley each went 2-3 with two RBI.
UNOH continued their run into game two of the day with a rematch of Dallas Christian. After racking up 14 runs and 14 RBI on 13 hits against the Crusaders two days before, the Racers did one better the second time around with 14 hits plating nine in the win. They also racked up a season high seven stolen bases in the game, the third most in program history. Tess Denning wrapped up a six-hit day going 3-4 at the plate while Zoe Johnson was also 3-4 adding three RBI, both season bests. Johnson was also a double away from the cycle hitting her first triple and home run of the season. Emily Norris and Kiya Benschoter combined for the seven innings in the circle. Norris got the start and went three giving up two runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout. Benschoter (2-2) got the win throwing the final four with just three hits while striking out three.
The Racers return home to open conference play this weekend hosting Rochester in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 24 beginning at 1:00 PM.
