Racers Score 22 in Non-Con Sweep of OCU

LIMA, OH - UNOH softball took a brief respite from league play to host a non-conference doubleheader against Ohio Christian on Tuesday. The Racers plated 22 runs on 29 hits in the two games to extend their winning streak to six straight.

 

After retiring the side to begin game one, UNOH began the the bottom of the frame going single, walk, single to get the first run of the game on the board. Payton Albright capped the first inning scoring with a single that brought in two more. After both teams posted scoreless at-bats in the second, Ohio Christian broke through with two in the third. The Racers answered right back with a three-run Zoe Johnson home run and a RBI-single to put them up 7-2. The Trailblazers went down in order in the fourth and Dani Keighley added three more runs with her own home run to center that gave UNOH an 10-2 lead. Ohio Christian loaded the bases with just one out in the fifth, but Emily Norris shut them down to complete the win.

Dani Keighley, Anna Ankney and Payton Albright were all perfect at the plate. Keighley led the way going 3-3 with four RBI while Albright and Ankney both finished 2-2. Karsyn McGlothen (6-3) after going four innings with two runs of three hits with one strikeout and one walk. Emily Norris finished the final frame with two hits, one strikeout and one walk.

A two-out solo bomb put Ohio Christian on top briefly to begin game two, but Dani Keighley anwered with a two-run shot of her own in the bottom. Hailee Edgell got into the long-ball action with a lead off homer in the second before Dani Keighley drove in two more with a double for a 5-1 lead. Ohio Christian finally found some consistent offense plating two in the third and two in the fourth to tie the game back up at 5-5 through three and a half innings. 

Again UNOH responded linking together three singles and a walk to take the lead back 7-5 after four. Once more the Trailblazers were retired in order in the next frame before the Racers exploded in the bottom. Zoe Johnson was responsible for four of the five runs scored scorching the ball over the centerfield fence for her third career grand slam. The runs dried up for UNOH and OCU shaved off two in the sixth but were held off giving the Racers the 12-7 win.

Payton Albright extended her hitting streak to ten games going 3-4 with one RBI. Hailee Edgell also finished 3-4 with one ribbie. Dani Keighley continued her offensive consistency completing an eight RBI day going 2-3 in game two with four RBI. Keighley extends her hit streak to nine games with multiple in eight of those nine. She has now recorded an RBI in nine straight games with a home run in each of the last three. Zoe Johnson finished with seven RBI on the day while going 2-3 at the plate in game two.

 

UNOH has now logged double-digit hits in nine consecutive games and will look to keep their streaks alive when they head to (RV) Concordia (18-6) for a rescheduled doubleheader on Thursday.
