UNOH Picks Up Two Wins at Siena Heights
ADRIAN, MI - UNOH run-ruled both ends of the doubleheader against Siena Heights in the sixth inning taking game one 9-0 and game two 9-1.
The Racers had a steady flow of offense in game one scoring in five of the six innings. A double and an error scored the first two in the second inning with another double adding a third in the third. The fourth was the highest output of the game with two singles, two errors, and a triple plating three. UNOH ended game one with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth while holding the Saints at bay.
Anna Ankney led the way going 3-4, a home run short of the cycle, driving in four runs. Ankney's triple in the fourth inning was her sixth of the season, matching the program record set in 2015. Sydney Shaffer and Tess Denning both tallied multiple hits going 2-3 and 2-4, respectively.
Carlie Hanes (12-6) earned her fifth complete game shutout of the season scattering six hits over six innings with three walks and two strikeouts.
The nightcap stayed tight through four innings with the only run coming off an error in the second that put UNOH up 1-0. Finally, the offense opened up thanks to a three-run homer from Zoe Johnson in the top of the fifth. Siena Heights got one back in the bottom but the Racer bats came alive with two outs in the sixth. Sydney Shaffer ripped her first triple of the season and was driven home by Alexis D'Alexander. After Anna Ankney was walked, Zoe Johnson stepped up again with a double that scored one before Tess Denning capped the day with a three-run homer for a five-run inning. Karsyn McGlothen retired the Saints in order giving the Racers the 9-1 win.
Alexis D'Alexander recorded her third multi-hit game in the last four going 3-4 with one RBI. Zoe Johnson led the team with four RBI hitting 2-4 with a double and a home run. Hailee Edgell finished 2-3 in the game and Tess Denning drove in three
Kiya Benschoter (3-2) threw the first five innings to earn the win allowing one run on four hits with three walks and one strikeout.
The Racers will play a makeup doubleheader at Cleary () on Tuesday before hosting Cornerstone () and Aquinas () Friday and Saturday to wrap up regular season conference play.
