Racers Split Two at Cleary
HOWELL, MI - UNOH and Cleary traded blows in game one before an error allowed the winning run to score for the Cougars in a 3-2 game. Offense wasn't any easier to find in game two, but the only inning of the day with more than one run favored the Racers in a 3-0 shutout.
Anna Ankney ripped her sixth home run of the season to put UNOH on the board first, but Cleary excuted their small-ball game bringing in the tying run with a sac bunt. It took two innings for either team to record another hit but it was the Cougars striking paydirt with a lead-off solo shot in the fourth. Two singles were enough for the Racers to tie the game 2-2 through five but two errors in the sixth spelled disaster. Those two errors allowed the go-ahead run to cross the plate and, despite loading the bases in the seventh, UNOH couldn't cash in droping game one 3-2.
Carlie Hanes (12-7) took the loss allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Alexis D'Alexander and Anna Ankney were responsible for the two Racer RBI.
After a scoreless first inning, Tess Denning broke through with her team-leading eighth home run to lead off the second. It wasn't until the fifth that UNOH would get their offense working again. After loading the bases, Alexis D'Alexander singled to right and scored two putting the Racers up 3-0. Cleary was held without a hit over the final three frames giving UNOH the doubleheader split.
Alexis D'Alexander led the team hitting 2-4 with two RBI. Hailee Edgell was the only other Racer with multiple hits going 2-3 in the game.
Karsyn McGlothen (12-4) picked up her second complete game shutout of the season scattering just three hits over seven innings with two walks and one strikeout.
UNOH will open a six-game home stand on Friday against Cornerstone (22-18, 10-8) finishing the week versus (RV) Aquinas (29-9, 11-5) on Saturday.
