UNOH and Cornerstone Split Doubleheader
LIMA, OH - UNOH softball dropped game one against Cornerstone, 7-4, but rebounded in game two winning 8-3 over the Golden Eagles.
UNOH scored first in game onewith a lead-off single followed by a Hailee Edgell triple in the second. A sacrifice bunt added another and the Racers went up 2-0 after two. Cornerstone did all their work in two innings plating four in the third and three in the fourth to take control 7-2. A walk and an error set up Zoe Johnson to drive in two in the fifth but the Racers only managed hit over the final two frames to take the loss, 7-4.
Johnson led the team with her two RBI while Hailee Edgell and Holly Alvoid each finished with one. Carlie Hanes (12-8) took the loss after three and a third innings. Hanes allowed three earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Karsyn McGlothen finished the final three and two-thirds scattering three hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
After the Golden Eagles scored one in their first at-bat of the nightcap, Anna Ankney tied the game with a solo shot in the bottom, her seventh of the season, and Zoe Johnson put the Racers on top with her own solo home run with two outs in the third. A lead-off double from Dani Keighley opened the fourth where UNOH put together a three run inning to go up 5-1. The racers kept pouring it on with Zoe Johnson going yard again in the fifth and Payton Albright making it a 7-1 game with an RBI single. Cornerstone finally came alive in the sixth stringing together four of their seven total hits for two runs. Alexis D'Alexander capped the scoring with an RBI single in the sixth and the Racers took game two, 8-3.
Alexis D'Alexander and Zoe Johnson both led the team with two RBI each. D'Alexander finished 2-4 while Johnson and Sydney Shaffer both went 2-3 in the game.
Karsyn McGlothen (13-4) earned the win after five innings of two-hit ball allowing one unearned run. Kiya Benschoter finished the final two frames allowing two runs off five hits with one strikeout.
UNOH will stay home to face (RV) Aquinas (31-9, 11-5) on Saturday in the final WHAC games of the regular season.
