Racers Conclude WHAC Play with Doubleheader Split on Senior Day

LIMA, OH - UNOH softball jumped out early in game one and ran away for a 11-0 run-rule win over (RV) Aquinas. The nightcap required two extra innings to decide a winner with the Saints taking the game, 4-3, in nine.

UNOH opened the game by retiring the side and began their first at-bat with a hit batter. Zoe Johnson followed with a double and Dani Keighley ripped an RBI single putting the Racers up 2-0. Two Saint errors in the home second set up the third run of the game before UNOH put the game away in the third. The Racers pieced together a six-hit inning, plating eight, and blowing the game open 11-0 after three. Neither team could get a hit over the next inning and a half but the damage was done giving UNOH the run-rule win in five.

Dani Keighley led the way going 2-2 with three RBI. Hailee Edgell finished 2-3 with one and Zoe Johnson drove in two.

Carlie Hanes (13-8) earned her sixth complete game shutout of the season allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Aquinas finally broke through in the nightcap scoring the first run of the game in the top of the second. UNOH answered in the bottom with a two-out, two-RBI double from Payton Albright to give the Racers a 2-1 lead after two. The next six batters went down in order and the Saints struck again with two runs in the fourth. Again with two outs, UNOH tied the game with an RBI-single in the fifth but after just one hit in the next two innings, the game went into extra innings still tied 3-3. Both teams threatened in the eighth, but neither could get a runner home sending them into a ninth inning. An error aided Aquinas in the top and UNOH went three up, three down giving the Saints a split on the day.

Anna Ankney was the only Racer with multiple hits finishing 3-4 at the dish and Payton Albright led the team with her two RBI.

Karsyn McGlothen got the start but was forced out after three and two-thirds innings. McGlothen gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits with one strikeout. Carlie Hanes (13-9) took the loss depsite a strong performance with her only run given up coming unearned. Hanes scatter three hits over five and a third innings of work while striking out three.

UNOH now has to wait to find out their fate in the final WHAC standings with several teams still with games in hand. The Racers will end the regular season with four non-conference games next week. Rio Grande (26-16) will visit Lima for a doubleheader on Tuesday with UNOH heading to Illinois on Sunday, April 28 for the program's first ever meeting against Roosevelt (14-16).
