Roosevelt (IL)
ROSEMONT, IL - On the final day of the regular season, UNOH softball edged out two victories in the program's first ever meeting against Roosevelt. The Racers scored the go-ahead run in the final inning of game one to steal a 2-1 win before holding on to a 5-3 win in the nightcap.
Game one went scoreless into the fourth before UNOH finally got on the board first. An error led off the inning followed by two singles to load the bases. Eden Roberts earned a RBI walk and put the Racers in front 1-0. The lead was short-lived, though, with the Lakers plating one of their own in the bottom. The 1-1 score held into the final frame with Zoe Johnson hitting a two-out single to set up a Dani Keighley double that brought Johnson home. Roosevelt was held to just one hit over the final three innings giving UNOH the 2-1 win.
Hailee Edgell led the team with three hits going 3-4 at the dish. Tess Denning finished 2-3 and Dani Keighley went 2-4 with one RBI.
Carlie Hanes (14-9) picked up the complete game win allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Back-to-back two-out doubles put the Racers in front to start game two but again Roosevelt answered with one in the home second. Consecutive doubles led off the fourth inning for UNOH plating one with Eden Roberts driving in another for a 3-1 lead after four. The Lakers got one back in the fifth but UNOH added two insurance runs in the final inning thanks to a RBI double and a sac fly. Roosevelt managed one run in their final at-bat but came up short giving the Racers a 5-3 win and the season finale sweep.
Dani Keighley was the only Racer with multiple hits going 2-4, both doubles, with one RBI but, as a team, six different players recorded an extra base hit.
Karsyn McGlothen (14-4) earned the win after four innings of work where she allowed one run off six hits with two walks and a strikeout. Carlie Hanes picked up her third save of the season finishing the final three innings giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
With the regular season in the rearview mirror, UNOH will enter the WHAC Softball Tournament as the No. 2 seed on Wednesday. The Racers begin the double-elimination tournament against seven-seed Cornerstone at 4:00 PM and will follow with either three-seed Aquinas or six-seed Lawrence Tech in game two.
